Khotachiwadi is a small, heritage Portuguese village that lies amongst the monstrous skyscrapers in South Mumbai's Girgaon locality. Khotachiwadi is a vibrant village, with houses and architecture very similar to Goa. The village was founded in the late 18th century. A large majority of this village is Christian and visuals of Jesus and Mary are extremely common. One of Mumbai's famous fashion designers, James Ferera lives here and is involved in efforts to preserve this village and protect it from the influence of builders and industrialists. Here are some more photos from Mumbai. These ones were taken by the brilliant Pooja Sivaraman! Neha's Story from Justin McCallum on Vimeo. |
