Yesterday, I came across a British Indian artist by the name of Jai Paul. I'm a little late to the party with him, but What. A. Find. This guy is straight fire. If you have the time definitely listen to "Jasmine" and "BTSTU". You'll probably realize that you've heard "BTSTU" and that's because Beyonce sampled this boy's track. That's right. Queen B sampled Jai Paul. If this isn't reason to drop everything your doing and check him out, then his track "Str8 Outta Mumbai" should do the trick. Need a study break? Then check this out!

She collaborates with other celebrated musicians such as Nitin Sawhney and Norah Jones, her half-sister. Favorites are "Flight", "Indian Summer", "Chasing Shadows", "Lasya", but of course they're all amazing. Combining elements of traditional Hindustani music and the Blues, this is a fantastic little set. Click the "read more" tab on NPR's website for more info about the musicians! Sid Sriram is already my favorite cover artist, using his classical Carnatic training in his covers of Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and others. But I finally found a song of his that really utilizes these skills! Have a listen. Check out this tune from electronic artist Gold Panda. He combines his usual electric beats with a classical Indian raga and this song is the result. |
